Breastfeeding - Cure Blocked Ducts!Curious how to rid yourself of those painful blocked ducts? Find out! In some Moms, breastfeeding can cause an occasional, very painful, blocked duct. Blocked ducts occur when milk is not flowing well from one area of the breast. You may feel a hard, painful lump in your breast. Many recommend staying in bed all day and nursing your little one as much as they will nurse. Sounds almost dreamy to spend the day in bed with my baby, minus the blocked duct of course. However, my 3 year old would never let me get away with this. Another suggestion I have been given frequently is to put heat on it. I have tried the shower and the tub, but it never seems to help me. The heating pad is great for a flat part of my body, but it never really molds well around my breast. So, I started using a hot Therapy Pillow (fill a tube sock with rice and knot closed). I place it in the microwave for 2-3 minutes to heat it up. Then I am able to wrap it around my breast and really get heat on the blocked duct. I have had it clear up within an hour after using my therapy pillow, where normally I would suffer for 2-3 days. Recently I learned of another cure for blocked ducts. Moms who take the supplement Lecithin have a greatly reduced number of blocked ducts. Many never have another one. I have been on it ever since learning of this and haven't had one yet. So far it has been amazing! If you have trouble with blocked ducts, you might want to consider taking Lecithin. It is available in the vitamin section of your local grocery store.
