Happy Heinys - Manufacturer's Care GuideCurious how to care for your Happy Heiny's? Here is what the manufacturer recommends. General Washing InformationStore wet and soiled Happy Heinys diapers in a dry pail. There is no need to rinse soiled Happy Heinys diapers prior to washing. The solid waste of older babies can be removed by gently shaking the diaper over a toilet. Remove inserts from Happy Heinys pocket prior to washing. Then: 1. Cold Pre-Rinse Happy Heinys 2. Wash Happy Heinys on hot with slightly less than 1/4 cup of detergent OR half of detergent's recommended amount. 3. You can add a downy ball of vinegar to the wash if desired. I recommend a downy ball because it releases the vinegar at the right time. You do not need to wait by the machine :) 4. Second-Final-Rinse Happy Heinys well to ensure all detergent is removed from diapers. 5. Hang Happy Heinys to dry for best results and a longer lasting diaper. Repeated drying of Happy Heinys in a dryer will decrease the life of the waterproofing laminate. DetergentsDetergents to use on Happy HeinysWe recommend Sensi-Clean or Allen's Naturally. Detergents NOT to useNatural soaps are often made with oils. They should NOT be used. They will leave a residue on Happy Heinys fleece causing it to repel urine. The following detergents will cause a soap build up on your Happy Heinys. Do NOT use them. Dr. Bronners Soap,7th Generation and Bio-Kleen. Never use fabric softener of any kind on Happy Heinys diapers. Liquid fabric softeners and dryer sheets both leave a waxy residue on Happy Heinys diapers which causes fleece to repel urine and decreases the absorbency of other diapers. The following detergents contain fabric softners: Baby detergents such as Ivory Snow, Dreft and any ALL free detergents. Stripping Happy Heinys DiapersBuild up refers to residue left by detergents, fabric softeners, and other substances used to clean diapers. In rare instances, baking soda will react with certain minerals in water and also cause build up on your Happy Heinys. If you notice a decrease in the functionality of your Happy Heinys diapers, build up may be the culprit. Stripping refers to the removal of residue on diapers. To strip Happy Heinys diapers, simply hand wash your diaper with your regular dish soap (gets the oils out), add a bit of dish soap to the Happy Heinys fleece, either rub the Happy Heinys fleece vigoriously together or use a medium bristle dish brush or hard bristle tooth brush to scrub the Happy Heinys fleece. Turn Happy Heinys inside out and repeat on this side. Rinse Happy Heinys very good, making sure that the water runs clear. You may use this method at any time you feel that the Happy Heinys diaper may be repelling or as a preventative measure once a week. If you are still having problems with your Happy Heinys, special cleaning agents may be used to strip Happy Heinys diapers. These options include washing Happy Heinys in a very hot wash using 2 scoops Oxyclean or 3 very hot washes using Sensi-Clean/Sportwash. You may also try a hot wash with 1 ball of RLR (found at Wal-Mart in the laundry aisle hanging on a clip). |
